Friends of the Oshawa Public Library |

Friends of the Oshawa Public Library is a group of concerned citizens who came together in 1995 to support our library system which was struggling to carry on an effective service in the face of constantly lower budgets. The initial group comprised a small number of
individuals. Today our membership has grown to nearly 200 volunteers.
Our purpose is to promote and enhance the services provided by the Oshawa Public Library through activities involving fundraising, advocacy, and our volunteers.
Annual General Meeting
The last General Meeting was on Monday, February 8th, 2010. All members of the Friends of the Library are encouraged to attend General Meetings, as are any who are considering joining the group. The Friends will welcome you with open arms. Refreshments will be served.
Friends Events
The Friends of the Library organise events in the community on an ongoing basis. To read more about Friends of the Library events, visit the Friends of the Library News Page
Friends of the Library Book Sales
The Friends of the Library operate two book sales per year. The Summer Reads book sale and the annual Giant Book Sale both take place at McLaughlin branch each Spring and Fall.
Friends of the Library Lounge at Isabella's Cafe
A selection of books and CDs are available at this chocolate cafe at 19 Simcoe Street South in downtown Oshawa. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Library.
Friends of the Library Book Cart
A selection of books and magazines (which are changed regularly) can be found all year round at the McLaughlin Library below the Friends' Bulletin Board just beyond the front desk. Library patrons are encouraged to choose a book and make a small donation to the Friends. No contribution is too small.
Friends of the Library Membership
If you are interested in joining the Friends you may leave a message on our answer line at the Library - 905.579.6111 x5266. The cost of membership is $5 for an individual and $10 for a family. Apart from the opportunity of working with a fantastic group of people and doing something to benefit our public libraries, members also have the advantage of a preview of the Giant Book Sale. This is their chance to make a selection before the general public.
